CHAMOMILE...
THE ANCIENT HEALER
In Ancient Greece Chamomile
was called "ground apple or earth apple"
because of it's smell.
Hippocrates used it to reduce fevers. In Ancient
Egypt, Roman Chamomile
was dedicated to the god Ra the sun god,
as it was considered
a cure for fevers and "ague".
To the Anglo-Saxons,
it was one of nine sacred herbs given to the world by the god Woden,
they would put it onto the household floors to delicately scent the home. Medieval monks
planted Roman Chamomile in Raised "healing beds" they made in their gardens for invalids
to lie upon to relieve depression. In the Middle Ages it was hung over babies' beds to protect
them and keep them healthy. It was traditionally used on the hair and face to attract the
beloved, in love potions and at weddings. Planted on graves it was thought to ease the
passage of the dead into the next world.
A
TIP FOR GARDNERS
The old herbal
books say it will revive an ailing plant when planted nearby in your garden.
Try adding it to a vase of droopy flowers to revive them.

HEALING
PROPERTIESThe
two plants most commonly distilled are Roman, which is a golden color and has been used in Europe for centuries
as a medicine, and a fumigant. The second is German Chamomile which is less bitter and a has a beautiful deep blue
color containing azulenes. It is particularly helpful for alleviating nervous stress of any type, especially for
tension in the solar plexus and stomach area such as gastritis, neuritis, peptic ulcers, colitis, spastic colon,
irritable bowel syndrome and colic. Chemiewerke Hamburg Pharmacy, of West Germany conducted research which found
that chamomile reduces gastric acid and helps prevent ulcers. It is a potent anti-inflammatory for Rheumatoid arthritis
and improves immune system activity. It has been recommended for hundreds of years to ease nerves and muscle pain,
sciatica and menstrual cramps. Place a few drops of Chamomile Oil in bath water to uplift the spirits. Chamomile
in general is an antidepressant and anti-inflammatory; a wonderful treatment for burns, eczema and skin irritation,
allergies, boils, rashes and enlarged capillaries. It is a natural antihistamine when there is swelling, puffy
eyes and headaches brought on by conjunctivitis, allergies or hay fever. Used in steam inhalations it relaxes the
bronchial tubes and helps to reduce bronchi-constriction in asthma, and hay fever. Used as a mouthwash for inflamed
gums, and a gargle for sore throats. It is wonderful for restful sleep. A cup of hot Chamomile tea will bring down
a fever, and soothe flu symptoms. It is also know to calm an inflamed bladder and relieve cystitis."It binds
and inactivates bacteria, fungus and toxins, including staph and Candida, even in low quantities. Historically,
Chamomile poultices have been placed on cancers and its lactones do show immune system-stimulating and antitumor
activity."

From the Oriental medicine
perspective, the oil is used to soothe the flow of the body's Chi energy, relax the nerves, relieve spasm, and
ease pain. Thus it relieves chronic tension and insomnia; nervous indigestion and nausea; constipation and irritable
bowel; headache and asthma. It also clears heat and reduces inflammation.

The Flower Essence
Chamomile is best for those people who are moody, changeable, easily upset, impatient and angry and unable to release
their emotional tension.
Energetically it helps balance our emotions, and acceptance of our limitations. It eases frustration and resentment
and promotes patience and the calm clear speaking of our truth.
Chamomile is a symbol of energy and patience in adversity; because of it's ability to restore equilibrium, ease
emotional problems, it promotes a sunny disposition and supports the nervous system.
Next time you find yourself stressed and reliving that emotional upset over and over again....spray Serenity ....
smell some flowers ..... and have a cup of Chamomile tea.
